Cherry Hill Alternative High School staff and student leaders with Cherry Hill Mayor Chuck Cahn receiving a proclamation from Mayor and Council on May 27th, 2014 for being named a 2014 National School of Character. this prestigious designation requires vigorous screening and has been awarded to just 41 schools across the country this year. Schools of Character foster an environment that prepares young men and women, both academically and socially, to be respectful, responsible and ethical citizens as they begin the transition to their next phase in life. AHS's character education efforts began six years ago, and these efforts have fostered an atmosphere where students can begin to realize their unlimited potential. Congratulations to the AHS staff, students and parents on this tremendous achievement!

On Friday, May 9, 2014, the Cherry Hill Alternative High School was informed that they had won the prestigious "National School of Character Education Award". Our school will receive their award on October 30, 2014 in Washington, DC.

National School of Character Education Partnership
Camden County Freeholders award the Cherry Hill Alternative High School a Proclamation for being a finalist in The National School of Character Education Partnership

Cherry Hill Alternative High School once again earns the coveted Character Education Partnership’s National Finalist Title for National School of Character!

Our school has embarked on a Character Education and Development journey for the past 5 years that has earned State and National recognition.  Our success has been due to the commitment of the faculty and staff to infuse our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Citizenship into every aspect of our student’s experience.  We have expanded student-initiative and leadership opportunities, have embraced a strengths-based behavioral model school-wide using the Nurtured Heart Approach, and have focused on character as a daily habit, reinforcing character values through service, reflection and action.

What’s next?  A representative from the National Character Education Partnership will be examining our written application and interviewing key stakeholders to assess whether our school has what it takes to earn the National Award for 2014.  Stay Tuned….
